Toll Golf, the golf and country club operating division of Toll Brothers, Inc. (NYSE: TOL) announces the opening of a new practice range and golf academy at Belmont Country Club. The newly renovated range was unveiled to members during a ribbon-cutting event on May 31st and features the addition of the Mitchell Spearman Golf Academy, over 18 acres of driving area, 71,000 square feet of teeing space, and almost 3 acres of short game space – making it one of the premiere practice facilities in Northern Virginia.

“We, along with Belmont’s members, are very excited about the significant enhancements that have been made to the range over the last year,” said Dave Richey, President of Toll Golf. “By improving the range, adding the short game practice area and introducing the new golf academy, we’re able to round out a complete and enjoyable golf experience for our members, their families and guests.”

The new facility is nearly three times the size of the former range and includes the addition of a short game area. Members and guests can enjoy three separate USGA-specified bent grass greens that will be able to accommodate any shot encountered on the course. The area allows for up, down, or side hill lies from rough or fairway, which should help every golfer improve his or her score or handicap. A fairway bunker between two of the practice areas allows members to practice one of the more demanding shots in golf. For additional practice and instructional needs, the addition of the Mitchell Spearman Golf Academy will feature instructors trained by renowned golf instructor, Mitchell Spearman – listed as Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Teachers in America”. Open to the public, the Mitchell Spearman Golf Academy, provides personalized instruction and group lessons aimed at improving all areas of the game and features advanced instructional technology to assist with the learning process.

“Our focus has always been to provide the finest golf experience for our members and their guests”, said Belmont Country Club’s General Manager and Vice President of Toll Golf, Maurice Darbyshire. “We believe our members belong to Belmont because it’s a special place, marked by beauty, history and tradition. We want our members to feel proud of what we’ve accomplished and where we’re headed in the future. This project is yet another step in that direction.”

To help improve playability, the new range and short game area is fully irrigated and drained to significantly improve the summertime turf conditions. The range also includes a laser-leveled practice area that will more accurately simulate play and 22 artificial turf mats for use in inclement weather.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Loudoun County, Virginia, Belmont Country Club is a spectacular golf course community featuring an Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. Known for its rich historical tradition, the Manor House, attached to the clubhouse and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in the 1790s by Ludwell Lee, son of Richard Henry Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Weddings and other special events are hosted in The Manor House, offering the unique appeal of something new and something old in one setting.
